Solid Foods...what a fun new mess!

So we recently started our Hailey Bug on solids and its been a really fun time. I was so excited when we left the doctors office to go and buy her some new food and new bowls and some of those great rubber tipped spoons. A word of advice to those new moms out there who might not have a clue (like me!) Baby food is meant to be heated and most babies don't like it cold! I had no idea until my mom pointed out to me that it is supposed to be heated up. My response "It's apples, who eats warm apples?" Well duh babies do! So now we know. She seemed to like the food once we weren't giving it to her cold! Live and learn. But we've been having a blast feeding her and learning her new tastes for what she likes. Pears good, prunes not so good. I'll have to make a note of that. Next step, make our own food...we'll see how that goes!

Its the little things in life!

So it's been a few weeks since my last post and a lot has happened. First I want to say YAY! for completing the March for Babies 5k. It was cold and rainy but we pushed through and felt a great sense of accomplishment. Plus we helped a great cause. March of Dimes is an organization that does great things.

Yesterday was the dreaded 4 mo checkup, and of course more shots! I was really proud of my Hailey Bug she barely cried. On the awesome milestone side we began solid foods. I know its a bit early but with the diaper or lack of dirty diapers that we've had the doc thought some solid foods might help. I was so excited to go into the store and get to pick out new spoons and baby food for the first time.

I'm what you would call a little things in life kind of person. I love the tiny little things in life that many people overlook. Going to buy little spoons with rubber tips was just one of those little things I love! It totally made my day. Don't get me wrong the big things rock of course but its the little things that keep me sane and happy. So try to always find pleasure in the little things its what keeps us happy in between all the big things!

March for Babies

We need sponsors to help us exceed our goal for the March for Babies 5k!! Please check out our team site at http://www.marchforbabies.org/team/t1579967

So my mom and I are members of Weight Watchers and they have a "Walk it Challenge." The purpose of this is to follow a weekly training schedule for 6 wks in preparation for a 5k. You select the 5k of your choice and you are rewarded with a charm along with the reward of knowing that you completed a 5k. I jumped on this opportunity not only to get back into running but to finally finish a 5k. We decided to do the March of Dimes March for Babies 5k. We set up a team called Our Haileys Comet to help raise money for the March of Dimes.

I chose the March of Dimes because I am a new mom of a 3 mo old who to my luck was full term, but other families are not always so lucky. My daughter has high calcium levels so we have had her in and out of the doctors office a number of times since she was born. Each time they take mulitple blood samples and urine samples and its just terrible to watch. We have concluded that she should grow out of it but it still means more blood work and more monitoring. I could not imagine if she was even more fragile then she was and fighting for her life, it would be heartbreaking. The March of Dimes helps families with premature babies and think its a great cause to support.

Some people don't really know what the March of Dimes is so here is a little background:

On the ground:

In local communities across the country, we're helping moms take charge of their health, and supporting families when something goes wrong. The March of Dimes also acts globally: sharing best practices in perinatal health and helping improve birth outcomes where the needs are the most urgent.

Health education:

We're reaching moms with information on having full-term and healthy pregnancies. Professional education and medical resources on topics like premature birth and birth defects, are helping health care providers better support their patients.

Washington update:

National guidelines for newborn screening were issued to help promote consistency among states so that all babies are screened for life-threatening identifiable, but treatable, disorders regardless of where they live.

Please help us to raise money for this fantastic organization!

If you have any questions or would like more information please feel free to check out the March of Dimes website and our team page. Any and all help is always welcome!

Things never really go as planned

Well today I had planned to come home around 5, feed my beautiful Hailey, make a nice healthy dinner, play with Hailey, do bath time, bedtime then me time. Not at all what happened...I ended up getting off early to take Hailey to the doctors. Of course after a week of not feeling well and not being herself when I finally do take her to the doctors shes feeling fine. Isn't that always the way it goes. So after coming home I decided to have my husband pick up some Wendys (so not Weight Watchers friendly,LOL) and I played with my daughter, did bath time then bedtime.
I don't feel like I got anything accomplished really but it is nice just to do nothing for a change, especially on 3 hours sleep. Hooray for the awesome husband who went back out to get food since he got the text message too late and hooray for the awesome daughter for feeling better.

I have been lucky enough to be able to spend some of my me time checking out some great blogs and finding some great ones to follow. And of course doing my best to update this blog and make it awesome!

Enjoying the blogging community!

So I’m sure you’ve noticed my blog is like still in the packaging new, but I’m working really hard to fix that. I’m still really terrible at the technical side of it. I’ve been using “Beginning Google Blogger” to help get me started, trouble is if the book gives me an instruction and I follow the instruction and the computer disagrees with that and decides “Nope I’m just not going to do that!” I’m lost!! But never fear there are more books out there just waiting for me to check them out of the library so I can improve my blog.
It has been an interesting beginning… I attempted to start a blog while I was pregnant (now I have a 3mo old) but this time around I’ve discovered sites like Mom Bloggers Club. So far I’ve already had 5 comments on my profile and joined two groups. Truthfully, I have no idea how these women even knew that I joined the MBC but I’m thankful they did. I’m really looking forward to starting this new adventure of blogging and finding some great blogs to follow myself.
Again - Any comments or advice to make this blog AWESOME are always welcome!!!

Special Thanks to Clayton for not only being my first follower (YAY!!!!) but for the great advice. I am looking into ways to share more information about myself and my passions in life on the blog!

Welcome!

Welcome to Hailey's Comet. This is my first blog so I will start with a bit of background, I am the proud mother of a 3 mo. old little girl named Hailey. My husband Chris and I are happily married and have been so for 4 years. We are both members of the Missouri National Guard, we are both college students, and we just recently purchased our first house. We both work full time and in our down time we are renovating the house.

We are extremely busy and exhausted and even on my bad days I am so happy and proud of my life. I try to make fun of a bad situation and I love to see the humor in life. Since this is my first blog I am working hard to make it the best I can with the time and resources I have so hopefully you can hang in there while I work out the kinks and you will find this blog enjoyable to follow.

If you have any suggestions or advice please feel free to let me know!
